About Thai-Bo

It was in early 1994 that Lorenzo first conceived the idea of Thai-Bo. In those days our traditional martial arts classes were hard work and perhaps aimed at the more dedicated ones. As a special request from some of our members we introduced a new class to our timetable. This was a fun class, combining martial arts techniques

with a simple aerobics routine.

Thai-Bo is a dynamic blend of Thai-Kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do and aerobics incorporating punches, knees, elbows and blocks with pad work, circuit training and martial arts based aerobic techniques performed to music.

Thai-Bo was born out of the need to make martial arts more accessible to those who wanted to participate in and share the benefits of martial arts training from a fitness point of view without feeling the pressure to spar in class or take part in competition.

A Thai-Bo class is a complete body workout. A short warm up and stretching leads on to the martial arts aerobic routine for stamina, fitness and coordination. Pad work follows which helps increase power and balance and encourages technique development. Next is the Thai-Bo circuit training which provides a burst of cardiovascular activity with emphasis

on speed. This is followed by strength and toning exercises and the cool down, with gentle stretching to finish.

Apart from the enjoyment factor, a Thai-Bo workout has a multitude of benefits, they include:
  • Stress relief

  • Self-confidence

  • Increased flexibility

  • Improved co-ordination

  • Healthy, toned, firmed body

  • Increased balance, speed and power

  • Introduction to basic self-defence techniques
